A Country in Crisis: Myanmar
This past year Serving Our World has been busy working and connecting to those in need. With people already positioned on the ground we were able to be out Doing What Needs to Be Done!
The figures climbed as U.N. estimated there to be 1.4 million survivors, with another 134,000 thousand presumed dead or missing in the trial of this devastating destruction.
Reports regarding aid supplies were very infrequent; they have to draw lots to get a small share whenever a donation comes in. For drinking water, one man said, “The township authorities threw medicine into a nearby pond and told villagers to drink from it.”
But we were there and were able to help provide shelter for hurting families, as well as send much needed food supplies, bags of rice and cooking oil to our contacts waiting for help. They were so thankful and happy that someone cared and would do something in this time of crisis. It made such a difference for those who were daily suffering.
India: Children in Need!
Orphaned and abandoned children digging in garbage dumps in India are called, “Rag pickers.” They are families forced, by despair and loss of hope, to dig in dumpsters or garbage bins in search of anything that can be scraped up and sold to dealers. We had the wonderful opportunity to help them and bring a purposeful solution to this hopeless situation.

These scavengers can be as little as 7 to 8 years old. Mothers forced to take their babies and toddlers with them while they scavenge. Although we may not know them, we were happy to help by sending funds. No matter what the size of the gift, we know it will help to get them off the streets and hopefully, start a new and better life on their own!
When you give to Serving Our World, you are connected, tying your life with those who are trying so desperately to survive. This simple act of kindness will bring all of us closer to our destiny. Stepping up to be part of the solution is where it all starts.
“Crossing Path’s”
Each day opens up more and more opportunities for Serving Our World. Here is a grandmother, grandfather and their grandson in a remote village in East Timor. They face the same challenges as others in finding food, as it is scarce, leaving them to scrape for survival each day. But they also have some very special handicap needs adding to their struggles. Both grandmother and grandfather are deaf, as well as their grandson, who is blind. They are out casts in their own village.
Each day both grandma and grandpa go out and rummage around for food for the day. They search for old coconut shells that have been discarded by others to make oil, and then in turn they sell the oil for change to buy something to eat. Their grandson must fetch the water, to do this he walks down a long and difficult road in the dark. The grandfather says, “My grandson and us are in your hands.” Serving Our World has crossed paths with them for a reason.
When we were asked to help we immediately said yes and provided them with food and supplies to meet their needs. Serving Our World has purposed to ‘Plead the Cause of the poor and needy’. We will be there for these grandparents and their grandson, as well as children like the ‘Rag Pickers’ and all those we have come in contact with in Asia and Africa who are being sold or affected by aids. Coming together for a purpose and with passion great things are being accomplished.
